This week was my own presentation.

AUTHORING: Completed by adding text and editting images in Adobe Fireworks.

MULTIMEDIA: Completed in Animoto (online slide show creator).

As stated on my blog post, Animoto was not uploading images correctly that night so we continued with the rest of the presentation, explaining as best we could the process of using Animoto.

I think it was invaluable to use the following youtube clip to communicate the definition of ‘multimedia.’

In English, we have been looking at the construction and deconstruction of text – MULTIMODAL TEXTS! I can see the application of multimedia programs to highlight the strategies used to achieve the author’s purpose. I can also see students using multimedia to act as the author and position the reader/viewer.

The class reception and feedback of our presentation and Animoto was outstanding. There were many eager ‘teachers’ to see what and how Animoto as we were emphasising how easy using the program was.

It was amazing to see that something so simple was considered ‘multimedia.’

I guess the hardest aspect of the assessment was exploring and then isolating one program to use for multimedia. Multimedia itself is massive… have text and an image – its multimedia! Add anything else – its multimedia! I guess it was also hard as it was a ’scenario’ not a real classroom situation, for I assume that the selection of the program will depend more on the purpose of the task, the students themselves and resources.

Des took our tutorial that evening and further explored Adobe Fireworks with us.

We were able to use JUST Adobe Fireworks to make a multimedia item. This included using shapes and animating them using frames – similar to making a movie! The hardest element in using this was understanding what 5 frames would do compared to 25! It all takes some experimentation, and I can always goggle it if I get really confused.
